On my trip to Japan, I made it a point to collect every flavor of Kit Kat I found along the way. I went on an epic vacation scavenger hunt for these things, walking into supermarkets, convenience stores and souvenir shops stuffing my purse with chocolates that ended up melting into green tea and cheesecake-flavored goop.
There have been over 200 absurd-sounding flavors of Kit Kat chocolates in Japan since 2007, each version representing the local flavors and palate of the region they’re available in. I kept an eye out for Soy Sauce, Wasabi, Matcha Green Tea, and Strawberry Cheesecake-flavored Kit Kat which are among some of the most popular flavors. Since we traveled in early October, there was a fresh crop of seasonal pumpkin-flavored Kit Kats that we added to an already-packed piece of luggage we had to purchase strictly to carry our load of candy back to the States.
Knowing how much I loved munching on these Kit Kats, my friend Robyn Chin signed me up for a Skoshbox subscription, in which I receive a box full of curated Japanese candies every month. It’s seriously the best gift I’ve ever gotten. The last box I received had something extra special: two mini Creme Brûlée Kit Kat bars. Simply stick them in a convectional oven, set on broil for two minutes, and ta-da: you’ve got an extremely literal Creme Brûlée Kit Kat. It tastes milky and sweet with a lightly burnt caramel flavor sneaking in right at the very end. It’s actually pretty freaky.
I kept them on my kitchen counter for weeks, waiting for the right moment to enjoy what surely would be a one-time thing. A few dinner parties and get-togethers later, I notice one of the bars was missing. Not only did one of my house guests devour a precious and highly unobtainable Kit Kat, but they didn’t bother to bake it. I’m literally shaking my head as I write this, and I hope you are too.
This time, I’m sharing a box full of special edition Kit Kats with one lucky reader. Enter to win below! I’ll choose a winner at random this Friday. August 8th at 12:oo PM EST.
